There are over 4 times as many Hyundai dealers as there are Genesis dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Santa Fe Hybrid’s warranty.

Reliability

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Santa Fe Hybrid’s reliability 12 points higher than the GV80.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Hyundai vehicles are better in initial quality than Genesis vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Hyundai third in initial quality, above the industry average. With 10 more problems per 100 vehicles, Genesis is ranked 9th.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2026 Auto Issue reports that Hyundai vehicles are more reliable than Genesis vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Hyundai 9 places higher in reliability than Genesis.

Regenerative brakes improve the Santa Fe Hybrid’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The GV80 doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

For better maneuverability, the Santa Fe Hybrid’s turning circle is 1.4 feet tighter than the GV80’s (37.9 feet vs. 39.3 feet).

The Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 250 to 650 pounds less than the Genesis GV80.

The Santa Fe Hybrid is 4.3 inches shorter than the GV80, making the Santa Fe Hybrid easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The design of the Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid amounts to more than styling. The Santa Fe Hybrid has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .294 Cd. That is significantly lower than the GV80 (.33) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Santa Fe Hybrid get better fuel mileage.

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the Santa Fe Hybrid easier. The Santa Fe Hybrid’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 30.4 inches, while the GV80’s liftover is 31.7 inches.

The Santa Fe Hybrid has a standard Sinking Seat third row seat, which folds flat into the floor. This completely clears a very large cargo area quickly. The GV80 doesn’t offer seats that fold into the floor.

Towing

Standard Trailer Sway Assist on the Santa Fe Hybrid uses the Electronic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The GV80 doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

On a hot day the Santa Fe Hybrid’s driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the GV80 can’t use the remote to operate the windows.

The Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid stands out above the Genesis GV80 by offering not one, but two Qi-compatible phone chargers. This convenience helps travelers with multiple devices to keep powered up on-the-go. Wireless charging eliminates lost or cluttered charging cables and two of them provide more flexibility.

Recommendations

Consumer Reports® recommends the Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid, based on reliability, safety and performance. The Genesis GV80 isn't recommended.

Motor Trend performed a comparison test in its October 2024 issue and they ranked the Hyundai Santa Fe Calligraphy Hybrid HTRAC AWD higher than the Genesis GV80 Prestige Black AWD.

The Hyundai Santa Fe outsold the Genesis GV80 by over five to one during 2025.
