For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The VinFast VF 8 doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

Both the Ioniq 5 and VF 8 have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Ioniq 5 has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The VF 8’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Ioniq 5 are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The VF 8 doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

Both the Ioniq 5 and VF 8 have rear cross-traffic warning, but the Ioniq 5 has Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The VF 8’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the Ioniq 5 and the VF 8 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has achieved the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest rating of “Top Safety Pick Plus” for the 2024 model year. This distinction is based on its exceptional performance in IIHS’ rigorous battery of safety tests. Specifically, it earned a “Good” rating in the latest, more stringent moderate overlap front crash test, a “Good” result in the updated side impact test, and an “Acceptable” score in the revised pedestrian crash prevention test. The VF 8 has not yet been evaluated by the IIHS for 2024.

The Ioniq 5’s corrosion warranty is unlimited miles longer than the VF 8’s (unlimited vs. 125000 miles).

Hyundai pays for scheduled maintenance on the Ioniq 5 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Hyundai will pay for tire rotations, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. VinFast doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the VF 8.

There are over 210 times as many Hyundai dealers as there are VinFast dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Ioniq 5’s warranty.

The Ioniq 5 N’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The VF 8 doesn’t offer launch control.

For better traction, the Ioniq 5 has larger standard tires than the VF 8 (235/55R19 vs. 225/55R19). The Ioniq 5 N’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the VF 8 (275/35R21 vs. 245/45R20).

The Ioniq 5 N’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the VF 8 Plus’ 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Ioniq 5 N has standard 21-inch wheels. The VF 8’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The Ioniq 5 has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The VF 8 doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

For superior ride and handling, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 has fully independent front and rear suspensions. An independent suspension allows the wheels to follow the road at the best angle for gripping the pavement, without compromising ride comfort. The VinFast VF 8 has a rear torsion beam axle, with a semi-independent rear suspension.

The Ioniq 5 offers an available driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The VF 8’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Ioniq 5’s wheelbase is 2 inches longer than on the VF 8 (118.1 inches vs. 116.1 inches).

The Ioniq 5 N handles at .96 G’s, while the VF 8 Plus pulls only .84 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the Ioniq 5’s turning circle is 1.2 feet tighter than the VF 8’s (39.4 feet vs. 40.6 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Ioniq 5 XRT has a greater minimum ground clearance than the VF 8 (7 vs. 6.8 inches), allowing the Ioniq 5 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

DA1VZ-LDIQN 2a06:98c0:3600::103 2025/02/05

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 700 to 1250 pounds less than the VinFast VF 8.

The Ioniq 5 is 3.7 inches shorter than the VF 8, making the Ioniq 5 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

For excellent aerodynamics, the Ioniq 5 has standard flush composite headlights. The VF 8 has recessed headlights that spoil its aerodynamic shape and create extra drag.

The front grille of the Ioniq 5 uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The VF 8 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Ioniq 5 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the VF 8 with its rear seat up (26.3 vs. 13.2 cubic feet). The Ioniq 5 has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the VF 8 with its rear seat folded (58.5 vs. 48.4 cubic feet).

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Ioniq 5 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The VF 8 doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The Ioniq 5’s power mirror controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The VF 8’s power mirror controls are embedded in the infotainment system, seriously distracting drivers who have to adjust them while driving.

The Ioniq 5 Limited has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the rear seat, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The VF 8 doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The Ioniq 5 Limited’s Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Parking Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The VF 8 doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
