Compare the2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5VS 2024 Jaguar I-Pace

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Jaguar I-Pace doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Ioniq 5 are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Ioniq 5 Limited/XRT/N has standard Parking Collision Avoidance Assist that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The I-Pace doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the Ioniq 5’s standard Downhill Brake Control allows you to creep down safely. The I-Pace doesn’t offer Downhill Brake Control.

The Ioniq 5 Limited/XRT/N has a standard Surround View Monitor to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The I-Pace only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

Both the Ioniq 5 and the I-Pace have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has achieved the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest rating of “Top Safety Pick Plus” for the 2024 model year. This distinction is based on its exceptional performance in IIHS’ rigorous battery of safety tests. Specifically, it earned a “Good” rating in the latest, more stringent moderate overlap front crash test, a “Good” result in the updated side impact test, and an “Acceptable” score in the revised pedestrian crash prevention test. The I-Pace has not yet been evaluated by the IIHS for 2024.

Hyundai’s powertrain warranty covers the Ioniq 5 5 years and 40,000 miles longer than Jaguar covers the I-Pace. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the I-Pace ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

The Ioniq 5’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the I-Pace’s (7 vs. 6 years).

There are almost 6 times as many Hyundai dealers as there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Ioniq 5’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Hyundai vehicles are better in initial quality than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Hyundai third in initial quality, above the industry average. With 26 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is ranked 15th.

The Ioniq 5 N’s standard electric motors produces 247 more horsepower (641 vs. 394) and 56 lbs.-ft. more torque (568 vs. 512) than the I-Pace’s electric motors.

As tested in Car and Driver the Ioniq 5 N electric motors is faster than the Jaguar I-Pace:

The Ioniq 5 N’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the I-Pace’s optional 40 series tires.

The Ioniq 5 has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The I-Pace doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

The Ioniq 5 N handles at .96 G’s, while the I-Pace HSE pulls only .90 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Ioniq 5 N executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.5 seconds quicker than the I-Pace HSE (24.1 seconds @ .82 average G’s vs. 25.6 seconds @ .74 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Ioniq 5’s turning circle is 1.1 feet tighter than the I-Pace’s (39.4 feet vs. 40.5 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Ioniq 5 XRT has a greater minimum ground clearance than the I-Pace (7 vs. 6.5 inches), allowing the Ioniq 5 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs up to about 650 pounds less than the Jaguar I-Pace.

The Ioniq 5 has .8 inches more front legroom, .1 inches more front shoulder room, .6 inches more rear headroom, 4.4 inches more rear legroom and 3.1 inches more rear shoulder room than the I-Pace.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Ioniq 5’s rear seats recline. The I-Pace’s rear seats don’t recline.

The Ioniq 5 has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the I-Pace with its rear seat up (26.3 vs. 25.3 cubic feet). The Ioniq 5 has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the I-Pace with its rear seat folded (58.5 vs. 53.6 cubic feet).

The Ioniq 5’s cargo area is larger than the I-Pace’s in almost every dimension:

Maximum trailer towing in the Jaguar I-Pace is limited to 1653 pounds. The Ioniq 5 offers up to a 2700 lbs. towing capacity.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Ioniq 5 has a standard rear wiper. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Ioniq 5 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The I-Pace doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The Ioniq 5 Limited has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the rear seat, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The Ioniq 5 Limited’s Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Parking Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The I-Pace’s automatic parking system requires operating the brakes and transmission to safely park and it doesn’t offer remote control parking.

The Ioniq 5 is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

Insurance will cost less for the Ioniq 5 owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the Ioniq 5 will cost $4060 to $5775 less than the I-Pace over a five-year period.

The Ioniq 5 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2025 and 3 more times in the last 4 years. The I-Pace has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 outsold the Jaguar I-Pace by almost 67 to one during 2023.
