Compare the2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5VS 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E

For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Ford Mustang Mach-E doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the Ioniq 5’s standard Downhill Brake Control allows you to creep down safely. The Mustang Mach-E doesn’t offer Downhill Brake Control.

Both the Ioniq 5 and the Mustang Mach-E have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The Ioniq 5 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Mustang Mach-E’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 2 years or 24,000 miles sooner.

Hyundai’s powertrain warranty covers the Ioniq 5 5 years and 40,000 miles longer than Ford covers the Mustang Mach-E. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Mustang Mach-E ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

The Ioniq 5’s corrosion warranty is 2 years longer than the Mustang Mach-E’s (7 vs. 5 years).

Hyundai pays for scheduled maintenance on the Ioniq 5 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Hyundai will pay for tire rotations, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Ford doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the Mustang Mach-E.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Hyundai vehicles are better in initial quality than Ford vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Hyundai third in initial quality, above the industry average. With 17 more problems per 100 vehicles, Ford is ranked 9th.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Hyundai vehicles are more reliable than Ford With 41 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks Hyundai higher than Ford.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2024 Auto Issue reports that Hyundai vehicles are more reliable than Ford vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Hyundai 11 places higher in reliability than Ford.

The Ioniq 5 N’s electric motors produces 161 more horsepower (641 vs. 480) than the Mustang Mach-E GT Performance/Rally’s optional electric motors.

The Ioniq 5 has a standard locking charge port which locks and unlocks with the power locks. The Mustang Mach-E doesn’t have a locking charge port. A locking charge port prevents tampering and damage.

The Ioniq 5 N’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The Mustang Mach-E doesn’t offer launch control.

For better stopping power the Ioniq 5 N’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Mustang Mach-E:

The Ioniq 5 N’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the Mustang Mach-E are solid, not vented.

For better traction, the Ioniq 5 has larger standard tires than the Mustang Mach-E (235/55R19 vs. 225/55R19). The Ioniq 5 N’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Mustang Mach-E (275/35R21 vs. 245/45R20).

The Ioniq 5 N’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Mustang Mach-E GT’s 45 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Ioniq 5 N has standard 21-inch wheels. The Mustang Mach-E’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The Ioniq 5 has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Mustang Mach-E doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the Ioniq 5 is 1.2 inches wider in the front and 1.6 inches wider in the rear than the track on the Mustang Mach-E.

The Ioniq 5 N handles at .96 G’s, while the Mustang Mach-E 4 pulls only .82 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Ioniq 5 N executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 3.9 seconds quicker than the Mustang Mach-E (24.1 seconds @ .82 average G’s vs. 28 seconds @ .62 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the Ioniq 5 XRT has a 1.2 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Mustang Mach-E (7 vs. 5.8 inches), allowing the Ioniq 5 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 100 to 250 pounds less than the Ford Mustang Mach-E.

The Ioniq 5 has 5.4 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Mustang Mach-E (106.5 vs. 101.1).

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Ioniq 5’s rear seats recline. The Mustang Mach-E’s rear seats don’t recline.

The front step up height for the Ioniq 5 is 1.7 inches lower than the Mustang Mach-E (16.6” vs. 18.3”). The Ioniq 5’s rear step up height is 2 inches lower than the Mustang Mach-E’s (17” vs. 19”).

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Ioniq 5’s liftgate can be opened just by waiting momentarily behind the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Mustang Mach-E doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

The Ioniq 5 XRT offers up to a 2700 lbs. towing capacity. The Mustang Mach-E has no towing capacity.

The Ioniq 5 Limited has a standard heads-up display that projects speed, navigation instruction and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Mustang Mach-E doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Ioniq 5 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Mustang Mach-E doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

When the Ioniq 5 Limited is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The Mustang Mach-E’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

The Ioniq 5 has standard heated front seats. Heated front seats cost extra on the Mustang Mach-E. The Ioniq 5 SEL/Limited/XRT also has standard heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the Mustang Mach-E.

Standard air-conditioned seats in the Ioniq 5 Limited/N keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The Mustang Mach-E doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

The Ioniq 5 Limited has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the rear seat, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Mustang Mach-E doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The Ioniq 5 Limited’s Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote Parking Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Mustang Mach-E’s automatic parking system does not offer parking by remote control.

The Ioniq 5 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2025 and 3 more times in the last 4 years. The Mustang Mach-E has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.
