Compare the2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5VS 2025 Cadillac Optiq

Both the Ioniq 5 and Optiq have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Ioniq 5 has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Optiq’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

Both the Ioniq 5 and the Optiq have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has achieved the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest rating of “Top Safety Pick Plus” for the 2024 model year. This distinction is based on its exceptional performance in IIHS’ rigorous battery of safety tests. Specifically, it earned a “Good” rating in the latest, more stringent moderate overlap front crash test, a “Good” result in the updated side impact test, and an “Acceptable” score in the revised pedestrian crash prevention test. The Optiq has not yet been evaluated by the IIHS for 2024.

The Ioniq 5 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Optiq’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Hyundai’s powertrain warranty covers the Ioniq 5 4 years and 30,000 miles longer than Cadillac covers the Optiq. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Optiq ends after only 6 years or 70,000 miles.

The Ioniq 5’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Optiq’s (7 vs. 6 years).

Hyundai pays for scheduled maintenance on the Ioniq 5 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Hyundai will pay for tire rotations, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Cadillac only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the Optiq.

There are over 48 percent more Hyundai dealers than there are Cadillac dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the Ioniq 5’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Hyundai vehicles are better in initial quality than Cadillac vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Hyundai third in initial quality, above the industry average. With 52 more problems per 100 vehicles, Cadillac is ranked 23rd, below the industry average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2024 Auto Issue reports that Hyundai vehicles are more reliable than Cadillac vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Hyundai 5 places higher in reliability than Cadillac.

The Ioniq 5’s optional electric motors produces 20 more horsepower (320 vs. 300) and 92 lbs.-ft. more torque (446 vs. 354) than the Optiq’s electric motors. The Ioniq 5 N’s standard electric motors produces 341 more horsepower (641 vs. 300) and 214 lbs.-ft. more torque (568 vs. 354) than the Optiq’s electric motors.

The Ioniq 5 has a standard locking charge port which locks and unlocks with the power locks. The Optiq doesn’t have a locking charge port. A locking charge port prevents tampering and damage.

The Ioniq 5 N’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The Optiq doesn’t offer launch control.

For better stopping power the Ioniq 5’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Optiq:

The Ioniq 5 N’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Optiq’s optional 40 series tires.

The Ioniq 5 has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Optiq doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

The Ioniq 5 offers an available driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The Optiq’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Ioniq 5’s wheelbase is 1.8 inches longer than on the Optiq (118.1 inches vs. 116.3 inches).

For greater off-road capability the Ioniq 5 XRT has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Optiq (7 vs. 6 inches), allowing the Ioniq 5 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 350 to 1050 pounds less than the Cadillac Optiq.

The Ioniq 5 is 6.5 inches shorter than the Optiq, making the Ioniq 5 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Ioniq 5 has 5.5 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Optiq (106.5 vs. 101).

The Ioniq 5 has .2 inches more front headroom, .1 inches more front legroom, .7 inches more front shoulder room, 1.6 inches more rear legroom, 2.6 inches more rear hip room and 1.7 inches more rear shoulder room than the Optiq.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Ioniq 5’s rear seats recline. The Optiq’s rear seats don’t recline.

The Ioniq 5 has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Optiq with its rear seat up (26.3 vs. 26 cubic feet). The Ioniq 5 has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Optiq with its rear seat folded (58.5 vs. 57 cubic feet).

Maximum trailer towing in the Cadillac Optiq is limited to 1500 pounds. The Ioniq 5 offers up to a 2700 lbs. towing capacity.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Ioniq 5 has a standard rear wiper. The Optiq doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

The Ioniq 5 is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Optiq doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

The Ioniq 5 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2025 and 3 more times in the last 4 years. The Optiq has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.
